Months after the closing, I met Red on the street and he asked what I was working on. I was at ABC -TV doing a soap, but not really happy since live performance was my business. Red offered to call around to producers and GM’s to find me a gig. I declined and said that something will come along, but I knew that although many people would make the same offer, Red really meant it. He was a true mensch.<br />Other opportunities did come along and Red and I worked on many shows together. My last show on Broadway was Bright Star and Red was there as always.Poconowarriorssmokesignlashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02968651014036468557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5797035092645713329.post-88399670515727617622022-10-17T08:19:36.659-05:002022-10-17T08:19:36.659-05:00MrDJR, thank you for taking the time to send such ...MrDJR, thank you for taking the time to send such kind words.broadwayandmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02341306991759322581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5797035092645713329.post-18148815720304632202022-10-16T09:35:13.437-05:002022-10-16T09:35:13.437-05:00Thanks for your insightful review. I have been away from New York so long that I have been out of touch. I am deeply sorry to know that he has died. Clayton was so much fun. I remember when he had his radio program, his show was a must on my list of things to do. His selection of music, his conversations were always the best and his guests were always special. He had a dry sense of humor and one of the best-looking men I knew back in the day. He is one of those people who from 1960s - 1990s guided the thinking in the development of an African American aesthetic in the arts, theatre, literature, and music. I certainly hope he is documented in history books. He was someone who was in the mix. The need for an accent after living in this country since childhood doesn't jell or seem true anymore. David Hyde Pierce is always good on stage but from the scene where he discovered this couple living for months in his apartment and insisting them to stay, kind of made little sense, especially in this day and age. That 1985 production sounds incredible and I hope you enjoyed your turn with it too. Again, thanks for reading B&Me and even more for taking the time for this exchange.
